All my pieces in this series include the energy or the element of Gaia, mother earth, the world. I feel this connection to The Earth as part of myself. Feeling all pain, joy and change that are occurring in, on and within Gaia at this moment in time. When I am connected to the earth, I know myself because I experience a oneness that’s lets me know that I am the same, that we work together, not apart, not separated and that Gaia is a living feeling collection of energies that create a whole, just as all living matter in it’s divine individuality is part of this whole. My work holds this particular energy of Gaia and the compassion and love I feel for her is embedded in the paint and materials as I work. Meditate upon these images for a while and observe your feelings, don’t think about it, just observe how these images make you feel. I have a great passion for using re-cycled and natural materials in the artwork that I produce. So many great things can be produced using sustainable materials. When I was in Guatemala I stayed at the most fabulous hotel called the Acculax (pronounced Acculash) in San Marcos by Lago Atitlan. The entire hotel was made from re-cycled materials with natural compost toilets and all! But the most amazing thing was the glass windows that had been made from re-cycled glass and paper mache. As well as whole bottles, fish shaped glass and colours of every kind, shells, leaves and even spiders had been embedded in the windows too! I learnt some techniques in this form of glasswork whilst I was there and returned to produce my own forms of re-cycled art glass and mirrors.
